There are different aspects you can take into consideration.
How long do you want to be out in nature?
7 days tours: Lillälven, Jösse, Glaskogen, Rinnen, Värmeln, Köla
easy doable in 6 days: Rinnen, Värmeln, Köla
doable in 5 days: Rinnen, Värmeln
4 day tour: Fåfängan
doable in 3 days: Fåfängan
3 day tour: Koppom
What makes a tour easy and family friendly, what makes it difficult?
Tour we consider easy and family friendly include river paddling and not many or short land transports. The tour Köla and Koppom for example include a lot of river paddling and the options to buy an ice cream along the way or refill your provision. They don't include a lot of land transports. The tour Koppom is doable with just 3 land transports, just note that one of them is 4,5 km long.
The tour Fåfängan for example is a beautiful 4 day tour with a mix of rivers and lakes and altough it has 7 land transports those are short, usually only around 200 m.
This is was originally designed for 3 days, but as a 4 day tour it gives you the chance to enjoy nature, wait bad weather out, spend time fishing or exploring.
Medium to difficult tours include land transports which are harder to walk, like steep forest paths or long gravel roads. Also along those tours you have to cover the distance of around 100 km from the starting to ending point.
In general the weather has a strong influence, especially, wind therefore an easy tour could become harder. The weather is something we cannot predict so you should be ready for anything. These are active holidays so be prepared for some hard work and lots of fun!
If you are a family with children and you wonder if you could do a medium or difficult tour, it all depends on how sporty and motivated you are. We have a lot families with children doing the Glaskogen, Rinnen, Lillälven or Jösse tour as well. They are up for an adventure and prepared to be out in nature.
For families with younger kids, we have some tours that are more suitable than others. These are classed as “easy” tours as they have less land transports, however, will still require some walking. Please keep in mind that you need to empty your canoe as much as possible during the land transports, so you will want to pack light, if your child will also need assistance during the transports. The canoe wagons are not suited to carry a canoe, with luggage and a small child inside.
